Dear Friends,
Thank you for your interest in my candidacy for the 15 th California Congressional Seat.
It is appropriate to ask why I am running against such a formidable opponent.
Active in California civic affairs and politics since my student days at Napa Union High School, I have often been urged to run for elective office but never before felt compelled. In 2008 there is national hunger for Change and an urgency that transcends political parties. Real change will require a House of Representatives made up of thoughtful Americans who are not afraid of new and different ideas, understand local and global economics, and are prepared to be held accountable by the voters for their actions rather than for their rhetoric.
I favor limited government; personal freedom and personal responsibility, in equal measure; and a strong military deterrent. Without attempting to compare myself to them, I share this philosophy with some of America’s most respected leaders: authors of the U.S. Constitution, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison; explorer turned political candidate John C. Fremont, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Earl Warren, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and John McCain.
As a native Californian, I have the greatest respect for the environment. I am passionately committed to the total elimination of fossil fuels as a source of energy in the US. But, as a business woman, I believe that we must find a rational, science-based compromise that strikes a balance between economic vitality and ecologic purity.
As the daughter of lawful immigrants, I have much to be grateful for but am mindful of my parents’ sacrifices and the loss of my grandparents, aunts and uncles in the Holocaust. I am a strong proponent of lawful, sensible immigration policy and practice.
As a mother and a grandmother I am concerned about their future. It is that concern that compels me to ask for your active support in ending “business as usual” in Washington. For our children we CAN do better. For our grandchildren we MUST do better!
I invite you to join me in this journey to a stronger tomorrow.
