Never have so many owed so much to so few
- Without waiting for the 2008 fall elections, Congress should immediately fully implement the Shalala /Dole recommendations for improved veterans’ health care.
- No wounded veteran should ever have to ask for care or compensation! It is a national obligation to provide these promptly and respectfully.
- If VA lacks capacity or resources, veterans can be served in civilian facilities paid for by Bureau of Veteran Affairs
- Pass a NEW GI Bill of RIGHTs
- Educational benefits for all who serve honorably
- Fixed amount for tuition assistance after 4 years
- Expanded benefits for additional service (in addition to all re-enlistment bonuses earned)
- After 20 years of continuous service, a full scholarship for those who qualify academically up to, and including, a doctorate (Ph.D. or M.D.)
- Home purchase benefits for all who serve honorably
- After 4 years of honorable service, offer low down-payment, low interest veterans loan programs to help veterans to buy their first home
- Forgive some portion of the principal on GI Mortgage after 10 and after 20 years of service
- Families of service members also serve
- Increase family allotment payments or build more affordable “base-housing”
- Increase one-time combat death benefit from $100,000 to $250,000
- Provide full four year guaranteed college scholarship to all the children of service members lost in combat to attend any accredited college or university the student qualifies for academically.
